Munnar - A Beautiful Hill Station in God's own country (Kerala)
72Munnar is one of the best hill stations in India which is located in the state of Kerala, popularly known as "God's own country". Munnar is situated at an altitude which ranges from 6500 ft to 8500 ft above sea level in Idukki district, which was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. The name Munnar is derived from two Malayalam words – ‘Munu’ meaning three and ‘aaru’ meaning river, as it is located at the confluence of three rivers - Muthirappuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly.
Kerala is famous because of its natural beauty and lush greenery. Munnar, in Kerala, is the hottest destination among tourists and this hill station is quite popular as a honeymoon destination for newly-wed couples.
Munnar is famous for its tea plantations, spices, valleys, mountains, and exotic species of flora and fauna. Munnar also offers a wide range of tourist activities which includes boating, trekking, parasailing, hot air ballooning and wild life safaris in the jungles and sanctuaries to list some.
How to Reach Munnar
The nearest cities are Cochin, Coimbatore and Madurai which are well connected by Rail and Air from rest of the country.
Munnar is just 140 kms drive from Cochin and Madurai Airport which takes around 3-4 hours due to hilly area while the distance from Coimbatore Airport is 180 kms which will take you around 5 hrs to reach Munnar.

Elephant Safari: To have some adventure, go for an elephant ride. It will take you to jungle for about an hour to have some wonderful experience.
Speed Boat Ride: On the Mattupetty Lake, you can enjoy a ride on speed boat. It could be a lifetime experience, especially if you never had a speed boat ride. In the still water of this giant lake, boat ride becomes very smooth and fun.
Overall, Munnar is a great place to visit with peaceful surroundings to have unique and lovely experience of natural beauty.
